Greed and its own Consequences in JUST HOW MUCH Land Does a guy Need?, a brief Story by Leo Tolstoy

In the short storyline “How Much Land Does a guy Need?” by Leo Tolstoy, the key character, Pahom, starts just as a peasant-practically with out a penny to his name-who gains a thirst for increasingly more land and prosperity after first purchasing area, and his pursuits finally result in his death. The tale is primarily about greed, and about how precisely it can bring about our demise. The topic of greed and its own consequences is carried through the entire story in it’s placing, characterization, and narration.

During the story, it had been stated by a peasant stated, “that he originated from beyond the Volga,” which will be the Volga river. Because of this, and the occurrence of the Bashkir tribes, we are able to assume that the story occurs somewhere in Russia. Because the story is published in 1886, and that Pahom was formerly a peasant who's now buying land, we are able to assume that the account most likely occurs in the late nineteenth century, following the abolition of the peasant serfdom in 1861. This means a whole lot, because this ensures that peasants who were previously serfs were today allowed to acquire land, and they were probably trying to find independence from their previous masters. These settings donate to the motif of greed for the reason that almost all of Russian residents were peasants, and that most wealth of the nation was in the lands of the minority of residents, which in itself can be a contribution of greed.
